Camila Mendes Cast as Teela in Amazon’s Blockbuster ‘Masters of the Universe’ Film

Camila Mendes is set to take on the role of Teela in the upcoming live-action “Masters of the Universe” film from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films, according to Deadline.
Mendes will star alongside Nicholas Galitzine, who has been cast as He-Man. Teela, her character, is a fierce warrior and Captain of Eternia’s Royal Guard, tasked with safeguarding the royal family, including Prince Adam, who is also He-Man.
The movie is based on the iconic Mattel franchise, although plot details are being kept under wraps. The film will be directed by Travis Knight of Laika, working from a screenplay by Chris Butler. The initial draft was crafted by David Callaham along with Aaron and Adam Nee. Originally in development at Sony and Netflix, the film is now being produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films, with a global theatrical release planned for June 5, 2026.
The “Masters of the Universe” franchise, which began with a popular line of action figures in 1982, is centered on the epic battle between He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe, and the evil Skeletor. The following year, the animated series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” debuted, becoming one of the first children’s programs to be syndicated on television. The franchise has since expanded into various media, including films, television adaptations, toys, and video games.
Mendes gained fame with her role as Veronica in The CW’s popular series “Riverdale,” which concluded its seven-season run last summer. She has also collaborated with Amazon MGM Studios on recent projects such as “Upgraded” and “Música.” Mendes’ other notable works include Netflix’s comedy “Do Revenge” and Hulu’s hit film “Palm Springs.” She is represented by CAA, Luber Roklin Entertainment, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
